Feelings of nature through the lens:
an
English woman in Swedish Lappland
I first came to Porjus in the
summer of 1995, for a holiday with my youngest son, to photograph the
nature. After spending three weeks in the forest surrounded by a
landscape which had no end, birds, animals and wonderful light, I had
completely fallen in love with this wide and wild expanse.
After making several returns
visits, each one lasting longer and longer, I made the decision to
leave England and buy the old railway station house in Porjus. As well
as my home, Porjus became the centre of my photographic work by opening
a Photo Gallery in the summer of 1998 in the station house.
During the first year in Porjus
I developed a fascination and passion for photographing the very
special and unique Arctic Light. So many visitors to the north only see
the midnight sun of summer. This is wonderful but to me the best time
is during winter.
My work has been trying to
capture on film all of this special winter light. The ever changing
spectacle of the northern lights, the array of colours in the pearl
clouds, the blue and pink winter days, even the ‘black and
white‘ days have their own special quality. In photographic
exhibitions and my bildspel “Reflections of Arctic Colour“
I hope I have given the viewer a glimpse of what I see through my
camera and what I feel about living in this wonderful part of the world
!“

10th Anniversary of Photo Gallery
June 16th sees the opening of my gallery for its'
10th year. As always there are some changes in the gallery layout.
Firstly my guests this year are Roine Magnusson and Anders
Wallin. They will exhibit a selection of photographs from the
book ' Den underbararesan'. This book was award the 2007 WWF
Nature book of the Year. The photographs are taken from a micro
light airplane and span the whole of Sweden from south to north.

This year
also sees a new exhibition of Northern Lights displayed in
light boxes. This gives a new dimension to the 'black' Northern
Lights exhibition room.
Still on
the theme of Northern Lights, one of the gallery rooms has been
transformed into a 24 seater film room. Now visitors can see
a selection of five 'films' . Three bildspels (still pictures
and music) and now two films of Northern Lights shot in Porjus using
a timelapse technique by a Dutch man, Jan Lameer (www.timelapse.nl).
Other
photo exhibitions I have this year are:
'Fire
and ice - art in fire and ice
'Clouds'
- the view from my widows are often spectacular cloud formations!
'Favourite
images' exhibited in the past 10 years.
The
collection of old cameras grows year by year and I am now
considering the need of a room just for the camera exhibition. I
thank all donators of cameras.
Lars's
pins room will carry the theme of 'sports pins'. Lars is also
very happy and grateful for all the additions made by visitors to
his collection of pins.
The old railway
goods van continues with the exhibition of road 45 which this
year has become 'European road 45' which means that this year you
can drive from the south of Italy to Porjus on the same road!!!
WELCOME!
Opening times:
June 17th - August 15th every day 12.00 - 19.00
