Summer and autumn offers unlimited possibilities for walking in the area of the national parks. The numerous rivers offer good fishing for all anglers and fishing permits are available in the village. Summer enjoys many weeks of the midnight sun and autumn follows with magnificent sunsets.

Visit Porjus in winter and experience a totally different environment. Spring, summer and autumn are packed into the months from April / May to October. 

October can see the snow arriving and change the face of the landscape for the following 6–7 months. 

This is a wonderful and unique time offering the visitor a quite different experience. Now you can ice fish, cross country ski on the many kilometres of prepared tracks. Alpine ski on the small ski slope, snowmobile on miles of marked routes.

September to April brings the possibilities of seeing one of natures most awesome spectacles – the North Lights.

As a photographer I have spent many, many hours outside during the winter nights both photographing and sometimes just lying on my back watching the northern lights. 

A sight everyone should have chance to see at least once in their life!

The short days of mid winter are also special. Some days a pink glow, some days the ‘blue winter light’. Even the “black and white“ days are unique.

If you cross the dam and travel several kilometres along the Ållolukta road you will come to the sign “Lancastern“. Walk along the two kilometre marked path and you will find the remains of the British Lancaster bomber (Easy Elsie) which crash landed during the second world war.

Standing within sight of the Power Station is the monument ”Kraft” – to the memory of the pioneer workers. 

At the north end of the village stands another monument – The Hand of God.
